Dope Gig Alert (And It's Free) - Mad Decent Block Party 2011

Tomorrow I shall dedicate my day to Mad Decent. Mad Decent, the home of Major Lazer, Diplo, and Maluca, will be hosting a huge block party at the South Street Seaport tomorrow starting at 12pm PM. Check it out!!!

And what's even more awesome is that there's also an after party at Le Poisson Rouge starting at 11 PM:

Sounds like a good time. After this rough week I couldn't think of any better way to unwind.

Song of the Day: Sublime With Rome and Wiz Khalifa - Can You Feel It

I never thought in a million years that Sublime with Rome would do a song with Wiz Khalifa. But thank God they did.

Love it.

New Video from the Beastie Boys ft. Santigold - Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win

Explosions. Zombies. Epic fight scenes. Yetis. Did I mention there are also dolls involved?

The Beasties decided to do a mini-movie this time around. Written by Adam Yauch and directed by Spike Jones, this video is just another testament as to why I absolutely love the Beastie Boys. They never disappoint their fans with boring music videos.

However, the Barbie doll theme has been done before. Check out "You're So Gay" by Katy Perry below:

Either way, both videos are awesome. Enjoy!

Dope Gig Alert (And it's Free)

Heineken is having a series of free events at Apt 78 in Washington Heights, NYC called the Uptown Summer Series. Not only have a Heineken Open Bar from 7pm to 8pm, they also have a bunch of dope DJs in the house, including the legendary Pete Rock on August 16th. As much as I despise the 1 train and the trek uptown from Brooklyn, I will definetly have to check out the Pete Rock DJ set on the 16th. Check it out!

New Track from Björk - Crystalline

Here is the new track from Björk called "Crystalline." Lady Gaga wishes she had this much creativity.

Rest In Peace Señor Joe Arroyo

Today the world lost a salsa legend, the always amazing Joe Arroyo. Joe Arroyo's career spanned an astonishing 30 years creating memorable salsa hits that has transcended several generations. Born in Cartegena, Colombia, this Afro-Colombian singer was discovered in 1970 Ernesto Estrada of Fruko y Sus Tesos and signed to Discos Fuentes.

Arroyo successfully mixed salsa with merengue, zouk, and other music that originated from the African disapora. The content of his music ranged from a simple story about an African slave defending the honor of his wife to his love for Barranquilla, Colombia. He was truly a talented artist. I have my salsa-obssessed father to thank for introducing me to this amazing talent.

"En Barranquilla Me Quedo" is my favorite song by him:

"Cachondea" is my favorite song from his time with Fruko y Sus Tesos:

"La Rebelion" tells the story of an African slave defending the honor of his wife from a slave owner. "No le pega a la negra" means "Don't hit the black girl".

And last but not least, the song I can't get out of my head thanks to my friend Carmen aka Miss King's County 2011. She danced salsa to this song for the talent portion of the Miss New York 2011 pageant :

Descansa en paz Jo-eh. Ahora usted es verdaderamente una estrella. Manda un saludo a mi abuelita y a Hector Lavoe de parte mia.

I am in LOVE...with Spotify

Someone please help me. I cannot shut up about how much I love Spotify. It's only DAY THREE ladies and gentlemen and I am addicted.

Created in Sweden, Spotify is a DRM-based music streaming service offering a range of music from both major and independent labels. Similar to Pandora, it streams music. However, instead of the software picking the music for you, YOU pick the music you want to listen to. It's a win-win situation. Spotify has an amazing and diverse database of music to choose from. Check this out below:

If I am in the mood for some underground hip-hop, like let's say, Jedi Mind Tricks, I simply type in the group's name, and viola!:

If I'm in the mood for some Latin music, like let's say, Omega (How Platano of Me LOL), I type in his name, and check out all that music!

What's even more awesome is that I can access my "starred" tracks from ANY COMPUTER!!!! I discovered this today when I logged into Spotify from my work computer:

And check this out, it's the same list on my home computer:

Most of all, although it is currently by invite only, Spotify is free. There is a subscription fee you can pay for if you want to get rid of all the advertisements on your account and if you would like to use Spotify on your mobile device. With how satisfied I currently am with the free service, I wouldn't mind to pay to stream my music on my phone.

To get an invite to Spotify, simply go to their website and sign up for an invitation. It's definetly worth the wait. Enjoy!

Nope, there's wasn't that much of a change to the page. However, the music blog is back with a new name and a temporary domain ( - site will have its own domain soon). Although the new name is kinda boring (All of the other names I had thought of were not available....thanks Blogspot -_-), it accurately reflects what I'm trying to do. I want to bring you the latest and greatest in music. With that said, let me start off this new era in my blogging career by reintroducing a painfully bad song that grew on me thanks to Pandora:

Ay yes, Mase. Surprisingly enough, the Mase Pandora station is probably one of the best Pandora stations available if you want to reminisce on all the classic hip hop hits from the 90's. Let me know what you think.
